Lolo Interagency Hotshot Crew

1961-2011, 50th Anniversary

We would like to invite past and present members, families and friends of the Lolo Interagency Hotshot Crew to attend a 50th Anniversary celebration April 30th, 2011 in Missoula.

The event will be hosted at The Keep (102 Ben Hogan Drive) beginning at 1700. Prices will be25$/adult, and 13$/child 6-12. There will be a cash bar available.

If you are planning on attending, you must contact Matt Gibson no later than April 10th, 2011. You can contact Matt through the information provided below.

When you respond to this invitation, please indicate the number of people planning on attending, and the years you were on the crew.

We are planning on doing a 50th anniversary Lolo IHC T-shirt, so if you’d like one, please also indicate number of shirts by size (S, M, L, XL). Cost of the shirt will be 15$/shirt, and proceeds will be donated to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation.

Crew patches will also be sold at the door, and proceeds will also go to the WFF.

We would also like to invite crewmembers to write or record a story related to time spent with the crew. These can be sent early, or brought digitally or printed to the event, and Matt will compile these written and oral histories into a document that will be sent out to attendees post-event. This document will also be archived within the crew history project.

Looks like we have a tentative date for a 50th Lolo Hotshost Crew reunion. From Matt Gibson:

Happy new year everyone, the year Lolo turns 50! I set a fairly firm date with Tim for the 50th on April 30th, 2011. I've got some calling to do next week, but we'll be trying to shoot for Marshall Mountain, and have a couple ideas for back-ups if needed. Please contact me, Dewey, Patty, Michael or Bill by phone or email if you'd like to assist in any way, and I'll try to do better posting info here as well.

Please spread the word about this Facebook page! I'm also working on some low-tech approaches for those who don't 'book, 'tweet, 'skype, 'vent, ICQ, or otherwise generate digital footprints. . .and it never hurts to call your long lost buddies from the crew, either!

Hello again -

Thanks to some help from Dewey, Michael A and Matt G, you will hopefully see a new Lolo Hotshots website come about in the new future. Matt, Michael and I plan to put forth a collaborative plan for a website which allows folks to post information and reconnect with old Lolo Hotshot friends. The plan is to create a much more interactive site.

Stay tuned. As soon as we get a site up and running, I will post the link on this blog.

I see that lots of folks are checking in. How about posting a comment? I'm still planning to set up a better website where people can actually interact more. I just haven't had time. In the mean time, post some comments if you're a Lolo Hotshot alum. Come on, we need to have a reunion! This can be the jumping off point.

A New Beginning

Hi Hotshots! This idea has been churning in my mind for a while: Wouldn't it be great to have a forum where current and former Lolo Hotshot members could connect again? I ran into Dewey yesterday (if you don't know Dewey, you were never a Lolo Hotshot). We threw around a few ideas and I said I'd give it a go.

So here it is, a blogsite dedicated to bringing old and new friends together! If you're like me, once a Hotshot, always a Hotshot! If you've served on the crew, you're a member of an elite group of folks.

My ultimate goal is to generate enough interest to put together another Hotshot reunion. We're not getting any younger, so sooner would be better than later!

I also thought that we should have a method for reconnecting with old friends and make new friends. The only requirement is that you either currently serve, or have served as a member of the Lolo Hotshots.

I'm just getting this thing off the ground, so indulge me with some patience. I hope to add a options for discussion, stories, picture posts and contact info.
